Frontend Web Developer (1 year, entry level position)

Your team   Within the Technical Division, the Software team develops and maintains the control and acquisition system software and user interfaces. We are continuously striving to increase the functionality and the reliability of the whole facility to meet the ambitious research requirements of MAX IV.   We provide laboratory wide software solutions following international standards in synchrotrons, such as data acquisition, control system, web-based user interfaces, distributed hardware control, scanning tools for running experiments, and metadata harvesting, to meet the continuously evolving research requirements.   We work on projects towards FAIR data, providing a storage infrastructure along with analysis tools for researchers to work on their data after their experiments. We also develop and operate services towards the operation of the whole facility, such as proposal and scheduling systems, electronic logging, diagnostic dashboards, and maintenance support systems.   You will join an open and friendly team of 20 developers of diverse backgrounds, where continuous improvement and mentorship is part of our DNA. As part of the Software group, you will work in close collaboration with scientists as well as network, system, software and hardware engineers and scientific software experts. We promote a DevOps style cross functional team and encourage mutual support between all team members.   Would you like to work at one of the brightest light sources in the world? MAX IV is looking for a junior frontend web developer to fill a 1-year project position, supporting the development of our control system web interface Taranta and other user interfaces related to metadata harvesting.  You will work on creating innovative user interfaces for the experiments, integrating data management workflows, and supporting critical tools for user and operations management.  Being part of the Software group also means participating in different international collaboration projects for software frameworks for controls, data acquisition and data management, across Scandinavian and European countries.   Finally, this is an opportunity to learn and to increase your skills, competence, and experience. At MAX IV you will meet open-minded people from different perspectives who enjoy sharing their expertise.  Your main work tasks will be   - Developing web-based user interfaces related to the control system, the management of data and operation support tools at MAX IV.  - Improving the “User eXperience” by solving issues and working on code quality.  To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications   - Advanced Higher Vocational Education Diploma in Frontend development  - Practical experience with web frameworks such as React and/or Angular  - Practical experience working with open-source development  - Practical experience of software development for scientific applications  - Knowledge of software testing  - The ability to work with ease in a Linux operating system environment.  - Strong communication skills, fluent in English  Experience in any of these are seen as merits - Agile team environment: familiar with pair programming, reviews, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.  - Knowledge of code lifecycle management: git, Conda, packaging, Ansible, etc  - Experience with large scale scientific facilities More merit will be given to a candidate that   - Has experience of working in an international research-oriented environment.  As a person you are first and foremost a team player and can demonstrate your communication and collaborative skills. MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research infrastructure hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden and abroad, with intense x-rays and state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Its 16 beamlines receive up to 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-rays. The ICT teams at MAX IV are placed under the Technical Division and deliver solutions to the whole MAX IV organisation in the areas of electronics, software, infrastructure and scientific data. This is a dynamic and highly challenging environment and requires close collaboration with the beamline staff in order to understand the needs and be effective in forming solutions. We are around 50 people in total who work in 4 domains in a well-organised and agile way.
